We have children playing in our Mini Soccer School for U5s and U6s and league teams from U7s to U18s. We offer football for children with all levels of ability - there is a team for everyone.

Our teams compete in the Cambs Mini Soccer League, Cambs Colts League, Royston Crow League and Eastern Junior Alliance League (EJA). With over 500 children, our club is one of the largest in Essex and still growing. We were awarded the Essex FA Charter Standard Club of the Year in 2018 and continue to strive to achieve the highest standards. We are currently fundraising for a top quality 3G pitch – this will be coming to Saffron Walden County High School in 2020.

" Football has to be fun for kids or it doesn't make sense. "

— Johann Cruyff

" We don't need to be screamers on the sideline. I think we can create an environment where the kid is in charge of his own game. "

— Jurgen Klinsmann

We support our volunteer coaches and assistant coaches by funding their attendance at FA training courses. We have one of the highest number of qualified coaches at any youth football club in Essex.

Our coaches and assistant coaches are all CRB checked and have a valid Safeguarding Children and Emergency Aid certificate. We take these qualifications and checks seriously. This is why we have maintained our FA Charter Standard for the last 5 years and were awarded Essex FA Charter Standard Club of the year in 2018.

All teams have at least one FA Level 1 qualified coach and many have two or more. We’ve also have 18 Level 2 qualified coaches at the club and these numbers are increasing all the time. One of our coaches has achieved UEFA B Level 3!

With teams competing at all levels in the Cambs, Royston Crow and EJA leagues we can offer our players football at a development level that suits them best.

Our sister club Saffron Walden PSG offers league football for girls in Saffron Walden and the surrounding areas. Together we are raising the funds to support #myCommunity3G.

Our senior club partner, Saffron Walden Town FC, was formed in 1872, and are the oldest club in Essex still in existence, and the 19th oldest in the world. The “Bloods” as they are known, because of the red in the club colours were founder members of the Essex County Football Association in 1882. We aspire to provide the next generation of SWTFC players!

" Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do. "

— Pele

In partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, we are building a new state-of-the-art 3G pitch in 2020. With Football Foundation support secured and planning permission agreed, our goal is to raise £150K. So far £115K is safely banked. Please help us to achieve our goal of realising first-class football facilities for our local children.

£115K of £150K target raised so far

Saffron Walden Community YSC

Dear SWCFC and SWPSG FC community;

We’re very happy to inform you that the grassroots football suspension in England will be lifted on December 2 with the end of the national lockdown, and we will therefore resume training and matches from this date.

The clubs will continue to implement our Covid-19 risk-reducing precautions, as recommended by the FA and instituted by our Covid-19 committee.

Our guidelines will continue to be periodically reviewed and the latest version is always available at swcfc.club/restart-football/ . It would be helpful if parents could please revisit the document with their player before returning to your first training session or fixture.

From Wedensday, December 2, 2020, Uttlesford District Council will be under Tier 2 restrictions; very similar to those in place before lockdown. As all of our training and matches take place outdoors, spectators are permitted and socialising is allowed while sticking to the rule of six.

Please continue to respect social distancing guidelines, maintaining a 2m distance between people of different households, and do not gather in groups larger than six. Socialising indoors is now prohibited and we recommend that you bring a mask with you in case you need to go indoors for use of toilets or other facilities.

Please continue to support NHS Test and Trace by signing in at our venues using the QR codes or by using the manual register.

What if a player or household member becomes unwell or is isolating?

If a player or household member of a player has any symptoms or suspected symptoms of Covid-19, or has had a positive test, or the player has been asked to self-isolate, please follow the following procedure:

1. Please DO NOT attend training or matches.
2. Notify your team manager. Your team manager will share data with the club’s Covid-19 officer and they will respect your privacy while fulfilling any notification requests, such as team registers, from NHS Test and Trace.
3. Please keep us informed of any test results and isolation periods.

We look forward to seeing you again in the next week!

LIME AVENUE UPDATE

Here's a nice picture showing the completed football pitches at #LimeAvenue in #saffronwalden. It is from Streetview and was taken in October 2014.

You can clearly see the pristine green turf, and the work to construct the new #persimmonhomes houses (the area on the left of the photo, with St. Mary's Church in the background) has not even started.

Fast forward six years - 2020 is almost at an end, but the pitches have still never been used and are not yet handed over to Saffron Walden Town Council!

With news of some "progress" in the form of a virtual meeting between SWTC and Persimmon Homes last Friday, could we be approaching the end game? We certainly hope so - #grassrootsfootball returns on the weekend of 5/6 November and we instantly have a shortage of decent football pitches to play on, so inevitably we will not be able to play all of the scheduled matches, or will have to change some to "away".

Hopefully it will not be another six years before we get to use these new pitches that are perfectly located within a short stroll from the Town Centre.
