We have children playing in our Mini Soccer School for U5s and U6s and league teams from U7s to U18s. We offer football for children with all levels of ability - there is a team for everyone.

Our teams compete in the Cambs Mini Soccer League, Cambs Colts League, Royston Crow League and Eastern Junior Alliance League (EJA). With over 500 children, our club is one of the largest in Essex and still growing. We were awarded the Essex FA Charter Standard Club of the Year in 2018 and continue to strive to achieve the highest standards. We are currently fundraising for a top quality 3G pitch – this will be coming to Saffron Walden County High School in 2020.

" Football has to be fun for kids or it doesn't make sense. "

— Johann Cruyff

" We don't need to be screamers on the sideline. I think we can create an environment where the kid is in charge of his own game. "

— Jurgen Klinsmann

We support our volunteer coaches and assistant coaches by funding their attendance at FA training courses. We have one of the highest number of qualified coaches at any youth football club in Essex.

Our coaches and assistant coaches are all CRB checked and have a valid Safeguarding Children and Emergency Aid certificate. We take these qualifications and checks seriously. This is why we have maintained our FA Charter Standard for the last 5 years and were awarded Essex FA Charter Standard Club of the year in 2018.

All teams have at least one FA Level 1 qualified coach and many have two or more. We’ve also have 18 Level 2 qualified coaches at the club and these numbers are increasing all the time. One of our coaches has achieved UEFA B Level 3!

With teams competing at all levels in the Cambs, Royston Crow and EJA leagues we can offer our players football at a development level that suits them best.

Our sister club Saffron Walden PSG offers league football for girls in Saffron Walden and the surrounding areas. Together we are raising the funds to support #myCommunity3G.

Our senior club partner, Saffron Walden Town FC, was formed in 1872, and are the oldest club in Essex still in existence, and the 19th oldest in the world. The “Bloods” as they are known, because of the red in the club colours were founder members of the Essex County Football Association in 1882. We aspire to provide the next generation of SWTFC players!

" Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do. "

— Pele

In partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, we are building a new state-of-the-art 3G pitch in 2021. Work is well under way - by the end of the summer this first-class football facility will be available for use by local children.

Our coaches give up plenty of their spare time for the enjoyment and development of the children they work with. Much of this goes unseen - it’s far more than just putting goals, flags and barriers up and organising the team on match day.

We have over 130 coaches in the Club, which is a remarkable statistic in itself. Most of these are are “Level 1“ qualified via courses run for us by Essex County FA, but we also had ten “Level 2” coaches and one, our EJA U16 Manager Brian Peggs, is a UEFA.com ”B License” (FA Level 3) Coach - our first ever.

We’re delighted to reveal that ten L2 Coaches has just become 18! After a long Covid related hiatus, eight new L2 qualifications have been confirmed for:

Adam O'Sullivan
Alex Dutton
Dave Carver
Dan Barden
Graham Copping
John Williams
Nigel Keating
Lee Chapman

Well done gents - the time and effort you’ve put in has paid off. 👏👏👏

We look forward to seeing the results in the form of enhanced coaching for your teams! Not many #grassrootsfootball clubs can boast so many highly qualified coaches. ⚽️🔴⚫️

Big thanks to the excellent Tutor, Assessor and Mentor Rob Munro for persevering after such a long gap. 🙌🙌🙏

Essex County Cup - 10/10/2021

Stanway Villa...1 SWCFC U18 Black... 2

The photo below is from last season, but the following match report, written by one of the players, is very much more recent! Our U18 Black team, managed by Lee Chapman, pulled off a fabulous result in the Preliminary round of the Essex County FA Essex Pelly U18 Cup, to progress to the main draw! 👊 ⚽️🍾🍾

"What a game of football for the Bloods U18 Sunday side. If you watched the game, you wouldn’t have been able tell they would have had to travel all the way to Colchester. A hard-fought game it was however, resulting in a 2-1 win for Walden.

After being under pressure from Stanway Villa and going a goal down, due to an unfortunate own goal, turned in by Alvaro Olmedo, the lads didn’t let their heads drop and what seemed like against all odds, managed to produce a comeback to send them out of the preliminaries and into the 1st round proper.

Callum Phelps and Will Cullen, the goal scorers, with the second of the two coming with only around ten minutes remaining after an inch perfect ball played over and in behind by the captain Cullen for Callum Phelps to fire home, clinching the win, if not for a last 10 of all out defence versus all out attack.

The boys turned up, and performed even those who didn’t see the field as much as others, each had a role and did what they needed to do, creating a very commendable performance." 🔴⚫⚽

Well done gentlemen - everyone loves a cup run and this was a great result which you should all be very proud of - we salute you.👏👏👏 #essexcup #UpForTheCup

Congratulations to ALL the participants who completed the Referee course with Cambridgeshire Football Association at Saffron Walden County High School last weekend. 👏🙌👏

Of the 18 on the course, no fewer that ten are teenagers from our club and Saffron Walden PSG FC - we're very proud of them all for taking their first steps on their refereeing journey! 😊

Many of them will be refereeing this Saturday. Please encourage and support them, and indeed ALL our referees, every single week. Without them, there'd be no game. 🔴⚫️⚽️
