We have children playing in our Mini Soccer School for U5s and U6s and league teams from U7s to U18s. We offer football for children with all levels of ability - there is a team for everyone.

Our teams compete in the Cambs Mini Soccer League, Cambs Colts League, Royston Crow League and Eastern Junior Alliance League (EJA). With over 500 children, our club is one of the largest in Essex and still growing. We were awarded the Essex FA Charter Standard Club of the Year in 2018 and continue to strive to achieve the highest standards. We are currently fundraising for a top quality 3G pitch – this will be coming to Saffron Walden County High School in 2020.

" Football has to be fun for kids or it doesn't make sense. "

— Johann Cruyff

" We don't need to be screamers on the sideline. I think we can create an environment where the kid is in charge of his own game. "

— Jurgen Klinsmann

We support our volunteer coaches and assistant coaches by funding their attendance at FA training courses. We have one of the highest number of qualified coaches at any youth football club in Essex.

Our coaches and assistant coaches are all CRB checked and have a valid Safeguarding Children and Emergency Aid certificate. We take these qualifications and checks seriously. This is why we have maintained our FA Charter Standard for the last 5 years and were awarded Essex FA Charter Standard Club of the year in 2018.

All teams have at least one FA Level 1 qualified coach and many have two or more. We’ve also have 18 Level 2 qualified coaches at the club and these numbers are increasing all the time. One of our coaches has achieved UEFA B Level 3!

With teams competing at all levels in the Cambs, Royston Crow and EJA leagues we can offer our players football at a development level that suits them best.

Our sister club Saffron Walden PSG offers league football for girls in Saffron Walden and the surrounding areas. Together we are raising the funds to support #myCommunity3G.

Our senior club partner, Saffron Walden Town FC, was formed in 1872, and are the oldest club in Essex still in existence, and the 19th oldest in the world. The “Bloods” as they are known, because of the red in the club colours were founder members of the Essex County Football Association in 1882. We aspire to provide the next generation of SWTFC players!

" Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do. "

— Pele

In partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, we are building a new state-of-the-art 3G pitch in 2020. With Football Foundation support secured and planning permission agreed, our goal is to raise £150K. So far £115K is safely banked. Please help us to achieve our goal of realising first-class football facilities for our local children.

£115K of £150K target raised so far

SWCFC AWARDED FUNDING FOR EQUIPMENT TO IMPROVE GRASS PITCHES!

SWCFC and Saffron Walden PSG FC players are set to benefit from fresh investment into local football facilities. SWCFC have been awarded a grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation, to buy a new tractor, mower, roller, brush, aerator and other equipment to help improve the quality of our existing grass pitches.

The Football Foundation is the UK’s largest sports charity and exists to improve the experience of playing football for everyone, by championing fair access to quality facilities.

Grassroots football matches and training cannot take place at the moment due to the COVID-19 outbreak and will only restart when it is safe to do so following government advice, but this funding is great news for local football in the meantime.

Our players - nearly 700 girls and boys - will be able to enjoy better quality pitches, which are currently prone to waterlogging and over-use.

SWCFC worked with the Football Foundation and Essex County FA to secure a £24.7k grant towards the project.

Matt Clare, SWCFC Secretary, said: “We have been working on this Football Foundation grant for some time. Anyone who has played on any of our pitches will know what they're like in the Winter. We will now have the equipment we need to genuinely make a difference to the playing surface.”

Robert Sullivan, Interim Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “We know the huge benefits playing regular football can have on individuals’ physical and mental well-being. That’s why we’re committed to transforming the face of grassroots football facilities in this country. It’s therefore very welcome news to hear that this funding will support insert club/organisation name in developing insert work being done or what the facility is for their local community.

“Working with our partners – the Premier League, The Football Association , government and Sport England – we will be investing in over £1bn worth of local facilities across the country over the next decade. We believe we can transform lives and strengthen communities by unlocking the power of pitches and this is another project that brings us closer to that ultimate goal.”

It is likely that the equipment will arrive in February or March; it's too wet to use it at the moment anyway!

BIG NEWS- PITCH LEVELLING AT HERBERT'S FARM!

Hi everyone - we have some positive news for you at this time of gloom and despondency! You'll (hopefully) be aware that we are aiming to start construction of our new 3G artificial grass pitch at Saffron Walden County High School soon (more news on that to follow) - this will generate a large amount of top-soil as we prepare the area.

Rather than consign this to land-fill, we've been looking at what else we could do with it. The result is that on Friday we submitted a Planning Application to Uttlesford District Council for permission to use this spoil to improve the flatness of two of the most dramatically sloping existing grass pitches at our Herbert's Farm Playing Fields site.

The result will be a new 11v11 pitch of 100 x 60 yards suitable for U15/16 players and an 80 x 50 yards 9v9 pitch where the ball doesn't run into the car park every other minute!

There would also be the existing 60 x 40 yards 7v7 pitch (next to Katherine Semar School) which is currently in use as two x 5v5 pitches, and the existing 11v11 (Pitch #3 on the plan below) would be moved slightly to take it away from the KSJS fence.

We'll issue more information on this soon.

Following on from the Prime Minister's announcement last night, please see following the relevant parts of the most recent FA statement:

“The FA note the UK Government’s announcement with regards to the new national COVID-19 restrictions and lockdown. As a result, the impact on ‘non elite’ football in England will include the suspension of fixtures and training across the following, with immediate effect:

• All indoor and outdoor youth and adult grassroots football, including under 18s (except organised outdoor football for disabled people which is allowed to continue)

It is extremely important that clubs, players, coaches, match officials, league officials, volunteers, parents, carers and facility providers adhere to the UK Government’s new national COVID-19 lockdown restrictions and we implore everyone to follow these.

Dialogue will continue with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, leagues, competitions and County FAs and we will provide further updates for ‘non-elite’ football when relevant.

We would like to thank the football community once again for its hard work, resilience and understanding during such an incredibly challenging period for both the game and wider society.”

Needless to say, this is a bitter blow but was expected. The Club will work hard in the background to ensure a smooth and safe return when it is safe to do so.

The full FA statement can be seen here:

Stay safe everyone - we'll see you soon and hopefully with the Vaccine rolled out, we can slowly return to normality.
