We are a community club for boys and girls and soccability players in Saffron Walden and the surrounding areas. We are an England Football Accredited club.

For boys, we have our Mini Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 lads and support league teams from U7s to U18s playing in the Cambs Mini Soccer League, Cambs Colts League, Royston Crow League and Eastern Junior Alliance League (EJA).

For girls we have the WildCats for Reception and Year 1 and Year 2 girls, and support league teams from  U8 to U18 playing in the Cambs Women and Girls League.

We also have a Soccability provision for players with any disability or impairment.

There's a team for everyone!

" Football has to be fun for kids or it doesn't make sense. "

— Johann Cruyff

" We don't need to be screamers on the sideline. I think we can create an environment where the kid is in charge of his own game. "

— Jurgen Klinsmann

We support our volunteer coaches and assistant coaches by funding their attendance at FA training courses. We have one of the highest number of qualified coaches at any youth football club in Essex.

Our coaches and assistant coaches are all DBS checked and have a valid Safeguarding Children and Emergency Aid certificate. We take these qualifications and checks seriously. This is why we have maintained our FA Charter Standard for the last 5 years and were awarded Essex FA Charter Standard Club of the year in 2018.

All teams have at least one FA Level 1 qualified coach and many have two or more. We’ve also have 18 Level 2 qualified coaches at the club and these numbers are increasing all the time. 5 coaches have reached Level 3.

Our senior club partner Saffron Walden Town FC, was formed in 1872 and are the oldest club in Essex still in existence and the 19th oldest in the world. Known as the “Bloods” because of the red in the club colours, Saffron Walden Town FC were founder members of the Essex County Football Association in 1882. We aspire to provide the next generation of SWTFC players!

This summer we formed an exciting new partnership with our local professional club Cambridge United FC.Read more about the partnership here

On Friday evening, the Saffron Walden Community YSC Walking Football Team took on local rivals Dunmow, in a friendly match.

November 2024 will mark the third anniversary of the inaugural Walden Walking Football session. On our 3G pitch at Saffron Walden County High School, each Sunday morning and Monday evening, approximately 20 over 50 year olds get together to play walking football - essentially standard football, but played without sprints and limited tackles.

The group boasts ex local Sunday league players and even a retired semi-pro or two, interspersed with players that maybe haven’t played football much since their teens or University days.

On Friday, the group hosted local rivals, Dunmow, who’ve been playing for 12 years, and proved to be difficult opposition. A narrow 1-0 loss for Walden ensued, although penalty claims and dodgy VAR decisions still avail at this level!

The group would actively encourage new players to come and try it. The boots required for the 3G pitch can be borrowed on the day. For more information please contact Matt Clare (matt.clare@swcfc.club) or Stuart Eagleton (stuart.eagleton@icloud.com).

Our U 11 Red team’s season ended at the weekend, and it was also the end of the “mini soccer” format for these boys, as next season they move into U12 “Colts” football.

The majority of these #youngbloods have been with the club since Reception year with our #MiniSoccerSchool, and they’ve always been a competitive bunch. They’ve developed into a tidy team, despite three players joining the Cambridge United Football Club Academy 👏👏

Manager Matt Bell said:

“The boys finished their league season on a high, playing football that is a joy to watch, and they’ve had great fun and scored bundles of goals along the way.⚽️⚽️

We’re all looking forward to stepping up to Colts football next season and can’t wait to see what the future holds for this talented group”. 🔴⚫️⚽️

Reach for the stars!

Pictured are some of our U6 players from our #MiniSoccerSchool after they played two matches with our friends from Bishop's Stortford Community Football Club - BSCFC at Joyce Frankland Academy yesterday.

The players from both teams had great fun and there were plenty of goals both ways ⚽️⚽️.

The youngest #youngbloods are preparing for league football next season and are doing really well at the start of their football journey! We wish them well. 🔴⚫️⚽️

All good things must come to an end…

It is always difficult to say “goodbye” to our U18 teams at this stage of each season. But for these fine young men, their time in “Youth” football is, sadly, at an end. 😢

Many of the players have been with the Club from as young as 6 years old. They’ve been coached by Peter Emsden and managed by Jo Wilkinson throughout their entire time with us.

There have been highs and lows, but as a group they have been outstanding ambassadors for the Club and we’re very proud to call them #youngbloods. 🩸

Manager Jo said

“The boys’ bond with their coach Peter is captured in the photo below. We arranged a friendly match where only eight of our players were available. Rather than cancel the match, we agreed with the opposition and referee that Peter could go in goal!. We faced 90 minutes against 11 players in the pouring rain & beat them 2-1! This was the game of the season for me!”

We wish the whole team all the very best as they move on to the next chapters in their lives, and we hope that they’ll all continue to play football wherever they end up. 🔴⚫️⚽️

Finally, a HUGE thank you to Jo and Peter for their years of support, dedication and sacrifice for the team. 👏👏🙏

Jo and Peter well done I know those guys will have great memories of youth football for the rest of their lives thanks to you. I refereed a couple of their matches and it was always a pleasure

Thanks to Jo and Peter for all of their time and dedication with the team - I know Eddie isn’t there any more but it was the greatest bunch of people.

Well done Jo and Peter fantastic achievement and dedication to grassroots football within our town. Great that you both get to start again with the U7 Reds next season 😉

Peter Emsden is nothing short of a legend! The memories that you and Jo have created will outlast any scoreline incredible effort by both of you

End of an era for sure. That’s where it all started for Connall and Brendan aged 3. Thanks to the legend Peter Emsden. Patience of a saint.

Well done Jo, Peter and all the lads. Huge thanks to all of you

I would like to concur amazing job and very much a credit to the club!

Well done guys . That’s a long time of commitment . ❤️

I’ve got photos of Peter’s team when they were U5/6/7 etc.

Well done Jo

Well done to all 👏🏻

New tiny goals for our teams to defend!

We’re fed up with losing close games, so we’ve invested in some tiny new goals for our teams to defend, whilst still attacking full size goals at the other end ⚽️.

The idea is simple - make sure you win the toss with a two headed coin (our Captains have to remember to always call heads) and then attack the “large” goal 🥅.

Then at half time, with a healthy lead tucked away, our groundsman will discretely switch the goals around for more of the same in the second half 👍.

Director of Football Tardis Fraudulentus said “I get paid a win bonus so this is a great development for the club, and me”.
