We are a community club for boys and girls and soccability players in Saffron Walden and the surrounding areas. We are an England Football Accredited club.

For boys, we have our Mini Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 lads and support league teams from U7s to U18s playing in the Cambs Mini Soccer League, Cambs Colts League, Royston Crow League and Eastern Junior Alliance League (EJA).

For girls we have the WildCats for Reception and Year 1 and Year 2 girls, and support league teams from  U8 to U18 playing in the Cambs Women and Girls League.

We also have a Soccability provision for players with any disability or impairment.

There's a team for everyone!

" Football has to be fun for kids or it doesn't make sense. "

— Johann Cruyff

" We don't need to be screamers on the sideline. I think we can create an environment where the kid is in charge of his own game. "

— Jurgen Klinsmann

We support our volunteer coaches and assistant coaches by funding their attendance at FA training courses. We have one of the highest number of qualified coaches at any youth football club in Essex.

Our coaches and assistant coaches are all DBS checked and have a valid Safeguarding Children and Emergency Aid certificate. We take these qualifications and checks seriously. This is why we have maintained our FA Charter Standard for the last 5 years and were awarded Essex FA Charter Standard Club of the year in 2018.

All teams have at least one FA Level 1 qualified coach and many have two or more. We’ve also have 18 Level 2 qualified coaches at the club and these numbers are increasing all the time. 5 coaches have reached Level 3.

Our senior club partner Saffron Walden Town FC, was formed in 1872 and are the oldest club in Essex still in existence and the 19th oldest in the world. Known as the “Bloods” because of the red in the club colours, Saffron Walden Town FC were founder members of the Essex County Football Association in 1882. We aspire to provide the next generation of SWTFC players!

This summer we formed an exciting new partnership with our local professional club Cambridge United FC.Read more about the partnership here

New tiny goals for our teams to defend!

We’re fed up with losing close games, so we’ve invested in some tiny new goals for our teams to defend, whilst still attacking full size goals at the other end ⚽️.

The idea is simple - make sure you win the toss with a two headed coin (our Captains have to remember to always call heads) and then attack the “large” goal 🥅.

Then at half time, with a healthy lead tucked away, our groundsman will discretely switch the goals around for more of the same in the second half 👍.

Director of Football Tardis Fraudulentus said “I get paid a win bonus so this is a great development for the club, and me”.

Saffron Walden CFC U16 Red…4; Broadhall Youth U16…2

U16 KEN MURRAY MEMORIAL TROPHY FINAL 2024

Our U16 Reds were looking to take their excellent recent form into the biggest match they’d faced, when they stepped onto the pitch at The Bury, Buntingford, on Sunday morning.

Things didn’t immediately go to plan! A few minutes into the game, the #youngbloods went behind to an unfortunate own goal.

Just five minutes later, things got worse when the league leaders conceded a second from a long range effort.

But the Walden team didn’t let their heads drop after the early setbacks. They showed great character, slowly getting control of the game by trusting their possession based football.

First, Ben Cornell struck with a great long range shot to halve the deficit ⚽️. Then, just before half time, Charlie Turner struck a volley after some good build up play to take the teams into the break on level terms at 2-2⚽️.

Following the interval the Walden side, playing in a blue and white away kit, continued to control the game. They were rewarded when an excellent team move saw a perfect cross headed home by Turner for his second goal ⚽️.

The #youngbloods were ahead for the first time in the match, and they consolidated this when, following a long period of possession, from a corner Turner bagged his hat-trick to claim the match ball and make the score 4-2⚽️.

Walden saw out the final 15 minutes of the game to finish as deserved winners of the Royston Crow Youth Football League Ken Murray Memorial Trophy 🏆

Commiserations to Broadhall who played their part in a thrilling and competitive final 👏👏

Manager Dan Condie said:

“The whole squad were incredible today. They showed resilience, determination and great team spirit to win the league cup. All their coaches, friends and family are very proud of the entire group.”

The team have been invited to show off their Trophy at half time this coming Saturday at Saffron Walden Town FC where we can all show our support and appreciation of their efforts! 🔴⚫️⚽️

Well done again - and big thanks to Dan Condie, Leighton Mitchel and Dan Cinque for years of volunteering 🫡

This happy bunch are our U7 Orange 🍊 team, pictured after their match yesterday morning.

After starting in the development group at the start of the season, the boys have shown superb improvement and joined the Mini Soccer League this January.

Every league game since then had been highly competitive, but these boys have shown resilience, patience and constant determination to improve, all whilst always walking off the pitch with a smile - the most important thing!

Today it all clicked into place and there were six different goal scorers ⚽️. The boys worked for one another, battled hard, showed off the skills they have developed over the course of the season and enjoyed some jubilant celebrations together at the end of the match! 🎉

The coaches and parents could not have been prouder of this group - they’ve come so far in a short space of time. Well done #youngbloods! 🔴⚫️⚽️
